A Journey to Overcome Weakness

My name is Melina, I'm 18 and i've been crossfitting since December of 2011. Since then I've become completely addicted to the lifestyle and community.

My love of food has grown exponentially since I started eating (mostly) paleo (most of the time).

So here's some stuff I find interesting, inspiring, or would just like to eat.

Well now I know what it’s like to hold a handstand to failure.

Strength:

5x3 power cleans (105 lbs)

WOD:

5 rounds of

Max handstand hold

10 supine ring rows

Score is total amount of time in handstand.

My score: 5 minutes.

I got 1:20 on the first one, and my shortest one was 50 seconds.

On the last one I could feel my elbows start to bend, my back got tight and I started to kind of collapse but I managed to hold it long enough that I would get my 5 minute goal before I fell over. I literally could not have gone another second.

WOD

3 max handstand holds (1:20, 1:30, 1:31)

Then death by pull ups (1 in the first minute, 2 in the second…)

Finished 11 full rounds plus another six.

Scaled to jumping from a box. May have gone a little easy on that one, probably could have gone with an inch or so shorter box.

WOD

3x max handstand hold (1:30, 1:00, 1:00)

Then 15 minute AMRAP of

10 Wall balls (15 lbs)

10 toes to bar

10 box jumps (20”)

Finished 5 complete rounds, and just two box jumps shy of a sixth.

I couldn’t get the swing on the toes to bar for the first half, so it went really really slow. I ended up doing knees to elbows for the last half so I could get the swing. My feet weren’t touching the bar, but they were damn close for most of them.

And I successfully avoided tearing my hands.

Medball races. What ridiculousness.

Two teams, each person in the team taking turns throwing a 20lb medball as far as they could across a 100m field, 15 rounds. My team lost. I think I would have liked it better if it was partner or singles. It didn’t seem like much work.

I didn’t break a sweat, but that might have been because it was 40 degrees and I was in shorts and a t-shirt.

There was another WOD after that, but I had already started working on back squats by the time they started, and they had a limited number of sleds. I wish I had joined them, but I did find my 3 rep max (150) and worked on handstand push ups a little bit.

WOD

Worked on handstands and double unders, then did

3 rounds of

20 air squats

20 burpees

20 hand release push-ups

Had a friend over and we did it outside since the weather was so nice, then cooled off and went for a bike ride. Pretty fun.
