Squatsquatsquat
Today was the heaviest i’ve gone in at least a month and a half.
We were going for 2-4 rep maxes, I went for 205 but both times i tried i just couldn’t get the second one up. Oh well. Then we did a drop set at 80% for max reps. I did 155 for 7. Pretty happy with it overall.
metcon:
5 rounds of 2 minutes on, 1 minute rest of
max rep toes to bar
max rep air squats
finished with a total of 291.
and then I couldn’t walk haha
WODs so far this week
My mom and I are trying out a different gym in the area. It’s closer to where I’ll be going to school in the fall and it’s got some great trainers who we already know. We’re taking a rest day today because the last two days have left us sore as hell and my mom is pretty tuckered out.
Monday
“Lynne”
5 rounds of
Max rep bench press (95#)
Max rep pull ups (kipping)
I’m pretty sure my total score was 73.
Tuesday
4-6 RM front squat (5@145)
max reps @80% x1 (10@115)
then
4 rounds of
50 air squats
400 m run
Finished in 14:06
And we’re gonna try to make the 8 AM again tomorrow. It’s a good time. Not too early, not too late.
WOD
Today my mom and I went to a gym recently opened by a couple guys who used to go to ours.
Besides all the equipment being beautiful and new, the trainers and atmosphere were quite different.
They were more encouraging and pushed us during the workout. They made sure to start on time and proceed in a timely manner through the skillwork, which they kept a close eye on and actually helped me iron out a few problems that I had with my cleans, which I could kind of feel but I was unsure what exactly I was doing wrong.
The actual WOD was
3 rounds of
1 minute wall balls (14 lbs)
1 minute tire flips
1 minute push presses (65 lbs)
1 minute burpees
1 minute sled pushes
Done in pairs, each partner alternating reps.
I’m not sure how many reps we finished exactly but I think it was 140ish. It was hard to keep track of, but It was a really great workout and I had a lot of fun.
I’m considering going to this gym in the fall since it’s only 10 minutes away from where I’m going to school. We’ll see.
Wod
Back squat
130x3, 150x3, 165x8
Metcon
2000 m row
50 air squats
30 hang power cleans (95#)
Finished in 14:42
The rowing was outside and I could smell the pine trees. So beautiful today.
95 is getting pretty comfortable during wods. I think I need to step that up :)
I actually don’t mind this picture.
This was after a db complex WOD where I had to go lighter than I had wanted because the guys were using the 25s and 30s and I knew I couldn’t handle the 35s and 40s.
But hey, I got through it faster and pushed myself to be uncomfortable.
With the terrible rain and flooding in my area, I decided to do a home WOD with my mom.
800 m run
50 pull ups
50 push ups
50 air squats
800 m run
Done in 19:32, RX
I have an old home made pull up bar in my basement, which works fine enough except I can’t cycle kipping pull ups because it rotates when I swing on it. So the pull ups were broken up into sets of 2 and 3 at best.
I wanted to walk so badly on the second run. That’s one of my top issues that I need to work on, being persistent while running. So today I forced myself however I could to keep running. Guys, I was imagining people running with me, I was practically talking to myself out loud. Anything to keep from walking. I wanted to get under 20 minutes, damn it, and I did.
Great WOD. Now for some lunch, TV and then hanging out with a friend.
The Chief
5 rounds of 3 minute amraps (with 1 minute rest between each) of
3 power cleans
6 push ups
9 air squats
Only full rounds count, finished 16 rounds at 95, which is Rx.
Awesome WOD.
Got a nice clean and jerk session in today. Finally starting up on a program. And man I am so tired of the open. It was good to challenge myself and see how I measure up (quite average, apparently. And there’s nothing wrong with that.) But I’m excited for a summer of getting stronger.
Birthday partner WOD
I turned 18 today! My family and I had a nice breakfast of steak and eggs and kale, then we headed over to the gym for a partner wod.
Both partners run, but everything else was split up so one was resting while the other worked.
400 m run
18 push presses (65 lbs)
18 sumo dead lift high pulls (65 lbs)
18 box jumps (20”)
18 pull ups
18 walking lunges
18 kettle bell swings (55 lbs)
18 v-ups
18 wall balls (15 lbs)
18 double unders
18 burpees
400 m run
Finished in 13 minutes.
Then we had chili, paleo no joke chocolate cake (recipe from Zen belly blog), banana bread and some dark chocolate and cherry cookies.
I had one cookie and then everybody insisted I do my 18 birthday burpees while they all ate chili and watched footage from past crossfit games.
It’s been a great morning.
